Mississippi's Gulf Coast is home not only to fun in the sun but to higher learning, too. Our local community college, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs, has several campuses and facilities in the area. And the University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Park campus is just a mile and a half down the road, right here on the beach in Long Beach. Blue Cliff College offers technical and career training in Gulfport.
Whether you're in town touring campuses or want to check out the landmark Friendship Oak, these facilities are important parts of our community. Students come from all over the world to study on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. With special programs like USM's ocean engineering degree, it's easy to see how appealing going to college on the shores of Mississippi Sound would be!
Blue Cliff is a technical school with several campus locations around the area; their main campus is in Metairie, Louisiana. Medical programs include clinical medical assisting, dental assisting, health information management, massage therapy, and licensed practical nursing. They also offer HVAC technician training, cosmetology, and esthetics. Many programs are offered in-class and online. The campus is located on Bernard Parkway in Gulfport.
MGCCC offers eight pathways and more than 60 career and technical programs to prepare students for the workforce. The two-year school has three campuses and six professional centers spread over Jackson, Harrison, George, and Stone counties. The main campus is in Perkinston, but here on the coast, the Bulldogs have Gulfport and Biloxi locations. Programs range from STEM fields, healthcare, hospitality, agriculture, and manufacturing.
The only four-year public higher education institution located on the Mississippi Coast, USM Gulf Park sits right on the beach. Fittingly, it's home to the state's only bachelor's degree in ocean engineering and the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. In all, there are more than 50 academic fields you can study at the bachelor's, master's, or doctorate levels. The campus is also home to the stately Friendship Oak, a local landmark that has stood tall for over 500 years, weathering many a storm.
