9 Stress-Free Vacation Tips

For some, the idea of a vacation sparks joy and gladness. However, it might spark stress and worry if you are a planner. The best way to have a stress-free vacation is to plan for one.

STRESS-FREE VACATION TIPS

A stress-free vacation is within your reach. Fostering a serene vacation in 2022 is possible as long as you plan. Planning for a relaxing vacation involves an artistic mix of scheduling some activities in advance while leaving plenty of time free to relax.

1. MAKE THE PLAN TOGETHER

Family planning a trip

Involve your kids and partner in the planning process. For example, if you ask your kids what they would like to do on vacation, they'll feel part of the planning and are more likely to want to participate when the time comes.

Planning activities together will ensure everyone is on the same page and has the same expectations. In addition, it will make sure that the whole family enjoys the vacation and focuses on having a great time.

2. PLAN IN ADVANCE FOR BUCKET-LIST ADVENTURES

If you have your heart set on zip lining, a beach sunset cruise, or a ranger-led hike, book that excursion as soon as possible. Some popular options book up early, and you might end up planning the rest of the trip around the one bucket-list item.

Booking your preferred adventures ahead of time will save you a lot of stress and worry.

3. PLAN FOR SPONTANEITY

Don't over-schedule your vacation. Over planning causes stress when there's an inevitable delay. If you have every minute planned, you won't have time to check out that new hotspot a local recommended.

4. RESEARCH HOTEL LOCATIONS

Make sure you check your hotel's location. You want a hotel close to your preferred activities and near restaurants and amenities. For example, if you are on a beach vacation, make sure it's close to the beach. You don't want to spend your vacation driving hours every day.

5. PACK LIGHT

Packing light means you have everything you need but nothing you don't. Don't pack 67 outfits for a three-day vacation; you'll feel overburdened and overwhelmed.

6. PACK A GREAT CARRY ON

However you get to your destination, pack a small, easy-access bag with all your favorite items. If you are flying, this is your carry-on. If you are taking a train or driving, it's just your small, go-to bag with items such as your phone, wallet, water bottle, and snack.

7. LEAVE YOUR TROUBLES AND WORK BEHIND

It might be hard to disconnect from the office or your business, but you'll enjoy the break more if it's an actual break. Leave your work laptop behind. Turn on a great out-of-office reply to all emails.

While it's fun to post pictures to social media, consider staying off social media and your phone as much as possible. Take a real camera or have fun with a polaroid instead.

8. FIND THE BEST RESTAURANTS

If traveling with your family, look for family-friendly restaurants with great kid's menus. It's fun to try restaurants that are popular with locals and check out some more touristy options.

You might also try a new type of food or the local cuisine. Plan at least one meal at a fancy restaurant with a view for a memorable experience.

9. TAKE A VACATION FROM YOUR VACATION

Plan a few days of rest after returning from your vacation. Instead of getting back to work straight away, take a day to recover from the travel. You'll also want time to take care of after-trip chores such as laundry and grocery shopping. Taking a few extra days off before returning to the office will ensure you can relax instead of feeling rushed and stressed.
