When you visit Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, there’s always something to do year-round. The area’s central location makes it a great place to meet up with out-of-state family members. Plus, it’s only an hour and fifteen minutes away from New Orleans, making it a perfect weekend trip. Whether you want to spend your days experiencing the exciting nightlife of Biloxi’s casinos or kicking back with a good book on the beach, the best winter activities in Coastal Mississippi are just a short drive away.

GULFPORT‍

The Lynn Meadows Discovery Center is a place just for kids to explore the world around them. As Mississippi’s first children’s museum, the center is dedicated to preserving the history of the area—in a way that’s fun for kids to learn about too! The museum features hands-on exhibits, play structures, crafting spaces, and more! This place deserves a return visit as your kids will love it.

BILOXI‍

Biloxi Lighthouse

There are many attractions in Biloxi that are great to visit in the winter.

Curl up with a good book and stay nice and toasty at the Beauvoir Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library. It’s one of the last remaining historic homes from the Antebellum area. The 52-acre property includes gardens, historic cottages, the main mansion, and the Presidential Library and museum.

The Biloxi Lighthouse has stood as a landmark of the area since it was constructed in 1848. Climb to the top of this historic cast-iron lighthouse and get a new perspective on the spot.

Learn more about the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s long history as a top producer in the seafood industry at the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum. The museum tells the area’s story, from its first Native American settlers to its growth and expansion as a tourist destination today. The museum’s main attraction is a full-size Schooner located inside the building. You can also charter a ride on a schooner!

Art lovers will enjoy exploring the Ohr-O'keefe Museum of Art. View ceramics from the early 20th century created by George E. Ohr, known in Biloxi as the “Mad Potter of Biloxi.” The museum is located on a beautiful piece of property near the Mississippi Sound, so exploring the area around the museum is an attraction all on its own.

PEARLINGTON‍

INFINITY Science Center at Pearlington

The INFINITY Science Center lets your imagination soar to new heights. As the location of NASA’s Stennis Space Center Visitor’s Center, the INFINITY Science Center includes exhibits about space and Earth science. Guests can learn about the vast reaches of space and the ocean’s depths and even explore a weather prediction center. You may even see a rocket or two!

MOSS POINT‍

See the natural wonder of Coastal Mississippi when you visit the Pascagoula River Audubon Center. Located on the Pascagoula River basin, visitors can view native wildlife and learn about local preservation and conservation programs.

OCEAN SPRINGS‍

The Walter Anderson Museum of Art celebrates the work of a local master artist Walter Inglis Anderson. Known for his pieces of local flora, fauna, and citizens, Anderson was one of the leading painters of the 20th century. The center also displays Anderson’s siblings, Peter and James, potters, painters, and ceramists.
